PYP Information

IB Candidate kindergarten

PYP  is an international program designed for children aged 3 to 12. The program focuses on  developing the child by covering their emotional, social, physical and cultural needs  in completing the thorough academic study. The PYP program combines the best studies from a wide range of national systems with experience and knowledge from international schools to create a relevant and exciting educational program. 

PYP offers a comprehensive approach to teaching and learning by providing an international model. Incorporating learners' guides and learning styles, teaching different methodologies and approaches to meet evaluation goals.

The themes included in the national curriculum are integrated through the trans-disciplinary themes proposed by PYP. The 6 Areas of Knowledge covered by PYP are Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Arts PSPE. The areas studied are included in various modules to achieve an integrated learning process.

The process of discovery and knowledge - Transdisciplinary themes

On the basis of a school year, children will be involved in various projects targeting trans-disciplinary PYP themes, correlated with those in the national curriculum:

Who we are - Who are / are we?
How we express ourselves - What and how do we express what we feel?
Where we are in place and time - Where are we in time and space?
How the world works - When / how and why is it happening?
How we organize ourselves - Who and how does it plan / organize an activity?
Sharing the planet - Protect and divide the planet

Large groups will go through all 6 themes, and the small and medium groups will study four of them, considering the 6 curricular areas:

Language (Language and Communication)
Mathematics
Arts (Arts)
Science (Sciences)
Social Studies
PSPE - Personal, Social and Physical Education (Physical Education and Sport, Development personal through "I can" and "Do it yourself" programs)

Profile of IB students

By addressing transdisciplinary themes, developing skills, stimulating curiosity and research and discovery, this system aims to outline the following features, which together make up the student' s profile :

  • Curiousity (inquirers) willing to develop their natural curiosity. They acquire the necessary skills to conduct investigations and research and show independence in learning. They like to learn in an active way and attach the importance of lifelong learning.
  • KNOWLEDGE (KNOWLEDGEABLE ): Explore concepts, ideas and issues that have local and global significance. By doing so, they acquire deep knowledge and develop the understanding of an expanded and balanced range of study branches.
  • Thinkers (thinkers) exercise the initiative by applying critical and creative thinking skills in order to recognize and approach complex problems, taking ethical and thoughtful decisions.
  • Communication (Communicators) understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and using a variety of means of communication. They work efficiently and with pleasure when working with others.
  • PRINCIPLE (principled): Act with integrity and honesty, with a strong sense of fairness, justice and respect for the dignity of the individual, group or community. They assume the responsibility of their own actions and the consequences that follow.
  • Open (open-minded): They understand and appreciate their own culture and past, are open to the perspectives, values and traditions of other individuals and communities. They are accustomed to searching and evaluating a range of views and are willing to learn from their own mistakes.
  • Empathy (caring): Show empathy, sensitivity and respect for the needs and feelings of others. They behaves in such a way that they intervene positively in the lives of those around them and the environment.
  • Courage (RISK-TAKERS ): Assert  unknown situations with calmness and self-confidence and manifest openness to explore new roles, ideas and strategies. They are courageous and firm when they defend their beliefs.
  • Balanced (BALANCED): They understand the importance of  intellectual, physical and emotional balance to get their welfare and that of others.
  • REFLEXION (Reflective): Give profound attention to personal experience and personal study. They are able to evaluate and understand their own strengths and limitations so that they consolidate their knowledge and personal development.
